This unique exhibition shows an important selection of the works of Fan Tchunpi (1898-1986), who was born in China but who spent the final years of her life in Geneva. It also shows part of a rare collection of Chinese calligraphy and paintings assembled by her and her husband, Tsen Tsonming, who died tragically in Hanoi in 1939. The collection brought together old pieces along with the works of the most notable painters of the first half of the 20th century.

The catalogue is divided into four sections. The first contains representative works by Fan Tchunpi, whose works range from traditional Chinese painting to French-schooled oil painting. The second section contains works by old masters such as Shen Zhou, Qiu Ying, Zhao Mengfu, Dong Qichang, Li Jian and Zuo Zongtang. The third section contains works by renowned 19th and 20th century artists such as Ju Jian, Gao Qifeng, Ren Bonian, Wu Hufan, Xu Beihong, Zhang Daqian, Qi Baishi and other calligraphers. The fourth section illustrates fine objects of the scholar's desk: inkstone, seals, incense burners, and other carvings.
