This catalog contains 54 paintings from an 18th-century album by a Tosa school artist, now in the Shin'enKan collection, portraying vignettes from Murasaki Shikibu's 11th-century novel, The Tale of Genji. Quotations from Edward G. Seidensticker's translation of The Tale of Genji have been selected to illuminate these illustrations. Chapter synopses included suggest a general outline of selected events and are inspired by the album illustrations.
