This catalogue accompanies an exhibition presented by the Art Museum, The Chinese University of Hong Kong to celebrate its 30th anniversary. It includes 110 prized items from the Art Museums collections of painting, calligraphy, epigraphy, objects for scholars desk, ceramics, bronze and jade, and also, sculpture and miscellaneous. The selected holdings, spanning from Neolithic to modern times, represent thousands of years of culture. All exhibits are reproduced in full colour with detailed description written by Lai Suk-yee, Peter Y.K. Lam, Lee Chi-kwong, Lee Yun-woon, Wong Yan-chung, Xu Zhongling, Yang Chenbin, Yang Jianfang and Yau Hok-wa. Names of benefactors and donors of art objects to the Art Museum are given in this special publication as a permanent record of their generous gesture and the Art Museums deep appreciation. It has a Foreword by Mr. J.S. Lee, Chairman of the Management Committee and a Preface by Peter Y.K. Lam, in which the Director gives a brief account of the missions of the Art Museum, the themes and special features of the permanent collection and extends his thanks to all benefactors as well as supporters over the last three decades. Through the diversified selections presented in this exhibition catalogue, one catches a glimpse into the magnificent world of Chinese cultural relics.
