Friendship and Scholarship

The First 25 Years

Peter Y.K. Lam

This book, jointly published by the Friends and the Art Museum to mark the Friends 25th anniversary which coincides with the museum's 35th, focuses on the museum acquisitions funded by the Friends during the latters first quarter centenary. In it, 44 out of a total of the 800 Friends-funded museum acquisitions are represented with full colour plates and supporting detailed descriptions by members of the Friends. Nancy McFadden, Friends Chair 1990-1992, penned the main essay, Broad Brushstrokes recounting the Friends 25-year history. J.S. Lee, the Friends longest-standing patron, has contributed a message of congratulation, followed by forewords by the three Art Museum directors over the last 25 years, James Watt, Mayching Kao and Peter Lam. An afterword by Victoria Firth, Friends Chair since 2003, concludes the publication.
