Carved Porcelain from Jingdezhen of the 19th to Early 20th Centuries

Tony Millier and Humphrey K.F. Hui

This is a catalogue of the Art Museum exhibition of 168 items of carved porcelain from Jingdezhen of the 19th and 20th centuries, featuring prominent works by renowned masters Chen Guozhi, Wong Bingrong, Li Yucheng and many others. Carved porcelain are mostly unglazed, but some are applied with a monochromatic glaze, and the relief decorations of landscapes, figures or bird-and-flower are done by carving, appliqué, moulding or dabbling. Scholar's studio objects in the like of brush pot, vermilion box, paperweight, brush rest occupy the major categories, while fragrance holders, vases, table screens for display purpose or fashionable snuff bottles are also popular. The exhibits are mainly selected from the collections of Tony Miller and Humphrey Hui, and augmented by private and public collections worldwide. A lengthy introductory essay is contributed by Tony Miller. All exhibits are illustrated in full colour plates, with detailed descriptive entries written by Tony Miller and Humphrey Hui.
